5 Ways To Combat Closet Clutter

I am constantly being asked the question “What do you do with all those clothes?” And the truth of the matter is that 50% of the clothes I wear to events are borrowed brand samples, as I probably won’t wear the look once it’s been shot for the brand, and the other 50% are donated to various women’s shelters that I work closely with around NYC. I AM NOT A HOARDER, and once the season is over I am onto the next trend. I’m also the type of person that will only wear something if I can see it, so I try my best to limit the excess in my apartment. This question got me thinking about closet clutter, so I put together a list of ways I combat the closet clutter in my 1 bedroom NYC apartment below.

Here are some of my favorite ways to combat closet clutter

  1. Clothing Rack - I have two metal ones from Amazon that are under $50. I use one for lining up my outfits for shoot days, and the other I for anything new that comes in for a project or an event. They both fold up easily and get stored under my bed when I’m not using them.

  2. Stackable Shoe Rack - I have these in every closet in our apartment. If your closet is tall enough you can event stack two on top of each other

  3. Hooks Or Rods For Hanging Bags, Scarves, and Belts - I put rods/hooks EVERYWHERE! I hate when bags and excess coats are on the floor, so this gives me the push to always hang everything up! Plus if you situate them in a circle formation on the wall they could look like an art installation

  4. Wall Mounted Shelves - I love this idea because you can use the shelves to showcase your bags and products in a unique way. Plus if you have cool clutches you'll want to see them out in the open to remind yourself they are there to be worn!

  5. Storage Bins - This may seem obvious to some, but I never stored my seasonal clothes in bins under my bed before a month ago. I always shoved them to the back of my closet. I love the clear bins linked above because then you can see what is in them if you are traveling somewhere warm and visa versa. I never realized how much closet room I could save.

The bottom line is that with spatial reasoning and a few DIY projects you can turn your space into a sprawling store of goods.

Working on a longer post about how the girls from Twice As Organized transformed my entire apartment. Stay tuned!
